Homemade Almond Milk

This delicious almond milk is completely free of fillers, preservatives, thickeners or sugars! The best part is that it’s much more cost effective than buying from your local health food store.

The perfect accompaniment for any of the Nutra Organics Latte range

Ingredients (makes 2 litres)

  • 1 cup of organic almonds
  • 7 cups of filtered water
  • Pinch of Himalayan salt

Equipment

  • High speed blender (I use a Vitamix)
  • Nut milk bag
  • Water filter
  • 2 x 1 litre glass bottles

Method

  • Soak the almonds in filtered water overnight (this will improve digestion by reducing the anti-nutrients)
  • Strain the almonds and add to the blender
  • Add filtered water and salt
  • Blend at highest speed until almonds are very fine (30 seconds or so)
  • Pour into the nut milk bag and strain over a jug
  • Squeeze until all the milk has been extracted
  • Spoon out any of the almond pulp from the bag and store
  • Store the almond milk in an air-tight bottle in the fridge for up to 5 days

What about the almond pulp?

There are plenty of uses for your almond pulp – please do not throw away!

  • Use to make some bliss balls
  • Add to smoothies for extra protein
  • Thicken vegetable soups
  • Mix with a banana and 2 eggs, then fry up to make a banana pancake
